joe_bailey2
I have a Powershot G5 with a 550EX flash. Is there a way to fire the flash for a light measurement with a Sekonic L-358 Flash Meter. I'm a newbie to light meters and didn't see any info on this subject. thanks, Joe
robert_reiss
The manual can be obtained at: http://www.sekonic.com/InstrManuals/L-358.pdf You set the metering mode to the little lightning sign which doesn't have the little "c" subscript. (Push the mode button and turn the thumbwheel to the setting described.) That is the cordless metering mode. Set the shutter speed to match the camera. You press the black metering button on the side which then gives you about 90 seconds to trigger the flash. Someone else may know if a preflash from the camera would foul things up or if you can use the test flash button on the flash to make the reading. bill_goldman
The reading would only be valid if the 550EX is in manual mode. This takes the camera, which computes the exposure in E-TTL mode, out of the loop and also eliminates the preflash.

digitmstr
You have to get a Paramount cord (or equivalent) to connect the PC cord to the hotshoe on which the flash will be mounted. if your meter has a radio/ir transmitter then, the receiver will be attached to said cord. Set BOTH flash and camera to MANUAL control. Take a reading and adjust the f/stop accordingly.
