candice
HELLO I have not used my Mark II in about a month or so. I didnt think the battery was dead but I took one photo and the battery image began to blink and died. So I took it out and began to charge it 3 hours has now gone buy and still can only take one photo and dies, and when it is on I cannot access the ISO selections. How long should it take to charge the battery before I can resume normal fuction? When should I get worried.
mark_chappell
The battery should charge faster than that. Sounds like a defunkt battery -- or maybe charger. To eliminate the possibility of other problems (aside from the power source), test with the AC adapter that came with the camera.

paulbk
Are you sure the charger is on "Charge" and NOT "Refresh"? Charge - will imediately start to rechager the battery. Refresh - will first completely discharge the battery, then recharge. If you want to immediately start to charge, do not press the refresh button. The charge lamp should blink slowly while charging. chrisjb
Hi Candice, if its been sitting a while a slight corrosion may be on contacts somewhere, clean all contacts, camera, batts and charger and try again
brideday
I agree with the contacts possibly being dirty, check inside the body.
jtek
Candice, You want the battery charger light to br RED! This is charging. If the light is amber (yellow) this means it's only refreshing (discharging). You need a good eight hours to fully refresh and charge the 1D's battery. The charger will do this automatically. good luck --j--
astcell
Beware the REFRESH button, it took 24 hours on one of my batteries! Make sure you have the time!
chrisjb
Question. If the AC adapter did not work, would that not exclude the refresh button theory.? unless that is crook too.
john_stark
Candice, Has the camera been in humid areas, before or after you stopped using it? I had my 1D (the original 1D) eating batteries as fast as I'd put them in... within 30 minutes. This of course occured during the month of May and shooting at Indy every day, plus newspaper stuff at night. Fortunately CPS had one they loaned the week before the 500. My camera sat all week in the house in dry enviroment. After sitting that week I tried the thing out and it was fine! CPS at Indy said that it was due to humidity, and it was the lens contacts that were shorting out, draining the battery. Didn't have any more problems until exactly a year later when the auto focus failed completly. $248 including shipping to repair it. What bites though is Canon returned the thing and didn't clean it after repairing it and the mirror has fingerprints and black specs on it...I am soooo ticked with them... and that very day I got it back I ordered a MKII N, 2 lenses, 580EX... $8500... now the original 1D needs to go back for cleaning after all that!
