Minolta Dual Scan III, please HELP!

I was offered for a Minolta Dual Scan III at a very tempting price

and I think it's probably the time for me the move to a better film

scanner (I'm currently using a rather basic flatbed scanner).

However, before I take the offer, I would like to hear some

suggestion from the people here. Here are some of my question listed

below.

 

(1) Does anyone using/used this scanner before? I will be using that

to scan B&W negative mainly, so how does it performance on B&W?

 

(2) Is this scanner Mac/Apple compatible, I have heard people give up

using this scanner as it is not fully compatible with Mac/Apple. Any

Mac users using this scanner at the moment?

 

(3) How does it perform when compare with the newer Dual Scan IV?

 

All your suggestion/infomation will be appericiated.

I've used the Dual II (similar to the III?) extensively with Tri-X, and it served me very well, though that was on a Windows system. The lack of ICE is not an issue if you're scanning silver emulsion black and white.

I used the III exclusively with B/W and I had no problems. You will like it. I used it on PC.

I have used this scanner on colour slides it was fine

 

I don't think the dual scan IV is very different

I'm using Scan Dual III for B&W on an G4 iBook with Vuescan. Works fine except occasional (rare) USB hangs and the quality is quite good. I have no experience with Scan Dual IV, so I cannot compare them.

My Scan Dual III scanner with Vuescan works like a charm for scanning silver halide b&w negatives like FP4+ or chromogeneous film such as Kodak's BW400CN.
