igor_sitchikhin
Do anybody have detailed information about Galvin 4x5" and 2x3" view cameras and experience of using them? Are they rough or not? Maybe somebody can sent me detailed photos of this cameras?
skygzr
I had a Galvin 2x3 some years ago. It's biggest drawback was the tiny 2x3 ground glass. You really need some kind of hood and magnifier. Mechanically it was pretty easy to use....no real complaints.
keith_pitman
I had a Galvin 2x3 a few years ago. I like the camera, but the ground glass was too small. I'd say if you want to photograph in that size, get a 6x7 back for a 4x5 or a Mamiya. The camera was simple, lightweight, but not flimsy. I like the fact that it was easy to carry. dennisprice
Here is a very informative article from a few years ago which compared Toyo 23G and Galvin 2x3. http://www.largeformatphotography.info/cameras/toyo/toyo-galvin-2x3.html

todd_phillips1
Years ago I had a 2X3 Galvin. It was the pefect copy camera in my studio. That's all changed now, of course. I still have some B&W sheet film negs that I shot with it. No complaints at all. I finally sold it because I just wasn't using it enough. Sort of wish I had it back! BTW, if anyone has some 2X3 film holders that they'd like to sell please contact me off line.
mark_erickson
I have a 2x3 Galvin. I really like it. I wouldn't call the design "rough" but rather a bit "imprecise." For example, the only geared adjustment is the focus along the monorail--all other adjustments are friction with teflon pads. It is certainly not in the same league as an Arca-Swiss, Toyo, or other 2x3 monorail cameras. On the other hand, it is much lighter and more compact. My 2x3 Galvin, along with three compact lenses on boards, a loupe, a darkcloth, and a film back, fits into a LowePro Trekker AW waistpack. It's about as compact a view camera setup as I can imagine.
