david_werbeloff1
Hi All: The images which have been posted in the last few days taken with the 90mm Thambar reminded me of images taken with the 73mm Hektor. I used to own a 1933 example inherited from my father, and in a myopic moment sold it. My memory of the images it yielded is high resolution with low contrast and an ethereal, misty quality, even stopped down. I'm curious, do any of you have photo's taken with this lens you could post? jim nichols
I also had a 73mm/1.9 Hektor about 45 years ago, but found it to be of limited usefulness. Wide open, it permitted indoor available light photos with the slow color films of that era, but it was so extremely soft at those apertures that it was only useful for dreamy portraits, etc. I don't recall that it sharpened up a lot even when stopped down. It was part of my learning experience, but,as I recall, I traded it for something more useful. I don't own a film scanner, so I'm not in a position to post any examples. Seeing what collectors are willing to pay for them now, I realize that getting rid of it was a mistake.
jcgoodman
Hello david, and all photo.netters. I've only a few examples of Hektor 7,3cm images available. They were shot only a few weeks ago with an old black/nikel lens which has been Leitz factory coated. You'll find 'em below.<div></div>

james_elwing
They look OK, quite good in fact. Can't see much flare; nice and contrasty. What film did you use? Mine isn't coated, & I probably used fairly 400 or 100 ISO print film, maybe 15 years ago. I seem to remember the images as sharp enough at moderate apertures, but a bit washed out. jcgoodman
Hello James - I used a recently-expired roll of Kodak Gold 100 color neg film for above shots. First pic (at f1,9) was taken somewhat against the light. The results from Hektor 7,3cm, coated or uncoated, can be improved by using a specially-designed gigantic lenshood. I used the original hood which is too short and too open for much effectiveness.
david_werbeloff1
Thanks for posting those photo's John. Your results are much better than the recollection I have of my lens (furthering my aggravation at having sold it...!). In conjunction with current film technology, any inadequacies in terms of contrast are minimized and the lens has plenty of resolving power (noted in the hair details of the second cat photo.) I also note a very different signature from the Thambar pics. you posted earlier.
