steve_mutchler
I just picked up a nice used F2...there are no batteries... I thought the battery type was imprinted on the inside of the battery cap, but it is not... Can anyone tell me what battery to get??? tri-x1
That's good to know. I've never owned an F2 but thought they used the banned mercury batteries like the F.
vincenzo_maielli
The only Nikon that use the outlawed PX625 mercure battery (1,35 volt) are the Nikon F Photomic (all versions) and Nikkormat FT and FTn. All Nikon F2 versions, the Nikkormat FT2 or FT3 and the totality of the Nikon seventies SLR, use two 1,55 silver oxyde battery or one 3 volt lithium battery. See the Peter Brazcko "Nikon Pocket Book" or a numerous classic Nikon websites, if you don't believe me. Ciao. Vincenzo Maielli Italy
david_h._hartman
If you are a heavy user you may want a pair of S-76 (silver oxide) batteries. I prefer the using a single DL-1/3N (lithium manganese) battery. I use these in my F2As and FM2n(s). Im considering using them in my F3 as I use the camera mostly with the MD-4.

Silver oxide batteries last about one year maybe more but they are more prone to leak when spent. I change them at one year intervals. If they are clean I pass them off to a calculator and a kitchen timer. In light to moderate use as in a camera where they only power the meter the DL-1/3N can last several years and have a shelf life of about 7 years.

You can get more information on batteries here

http://data.energizer.com/

http://www.duracell.com/oem/

Best,

Dave Hartman.

Postscript: DL-1/3N is probably a Duracell number, S-76 size often uses a variant of S-76 such as V 76 PX for VARTA. Don't buy A-76 batteries as these are alkaline batteries.
berg_na
I prefer a single 3V battery, and the lithium Energizer 2L76s are easy to find.
