mick johnson
Can someone tell me for sure that the ST-E2 will work ok with the 500n body. I have searched but can't find what I'm looking for. I think it does work as it's an ETTL capable body.
awindsor
I am certain that the basic wireless functions will work. The first generation of type A cameras don't support ratio control and the 500N is one of these. http://eosseries.ifrance.com/en/flashwork/flashwork_ssfil.html
mick johnson
Thank's Alistair, the camera is not mine btw, that's why I'm asking. Do you know if it has flash compensation via the body as I've read it does not but see on the link you gave it does in the compatibility chart, I think...... ramana_murthy
I used ST-E2 on 500n almost always untill recently. They work fine together. As far I know, seting the flash compensation from the body is not possible with 500n.
mark u
It is possible to "fix" flash compensation with any film body. To do so, you have to fool the camera by changing the ISO setting and not using the scene modes (which will override the setting). For example, if you are using 200 ISO film, setting the ISO to 400 will give the equivalent of 1 stop less flash. Of course, you also have to use exposure compensation to get the correct ambient exposure for 200 ISO film - so in this case, you'd increase the ambient exposure by 1 stop from what the camera meters or what you would otherwise consider appropriate given the subject (perhaps most easily done shooting in M mode). There are other remedies when you are working with an on camera flash, making use of flash exposure lock - but these are impractical if you are using slave flash via an ST-E2. The ISO trick is not available when using a DSLR.
