Digilux 2 replacement?

Hi, I'm new here. I have looked through the posts regarding the

D2. Not much there unless I am looking in the wrong place!

Please don't be too hard if i have missed the obvious.

So, I am a full time snapper on Nikon D2hs and really want a

camera for street and fun. I had a M6 some years ago but failed

miserably with manual focus, being a child of auto and these

damn squiffy eyes!

I am really tempted by the D2 but am wary of spending if a

replacement 8mp chip is soon to be released. I know the D2hs

has only a sub 5mp chip, that is why I wonder if i should wait.

I have the old itchy fingers problem ao waiting is a chore.

Do you know if a launch date is due for the upgrade of the D2?

thanks in advance.

David

A number of experts say that you need to double the resolution in order to make a noticable difference, see www.kenrockwell.com. Also the M digital is due out next year so they probably have their hands full with that.

If the camera is for fun I don't see the point in waiting, especially considering the tiny increase in pic size you'll get with 8mp. After all, the D2 is supposed to be pretty wicked in terms of image as is, plus a new version will cost even more.

Go get it now, I would, if by some chance a new one pops up you can sell it and just lose a couple of hundred, also think how long it'll take to become ready to buy after it's announced!

I think the 5mp is suffient for the what you have described.. sounds like you won't be in the

market for a mD being you want auto focus..I think the d2 is way better than my 4mp canon

point and shoot and I can do nice a4 prints with that..leica also has that 8mp pointnshoot/

panasonic camera but I'd rather have the d2, I have a p+s and can't see the point of 8mp in

an instamatic style camera.

don't wait - buy the thing..it's chrismas.

A man after my own heart, I hope it's tonnes of fun!

Fortunatley I'm lucky enough to have a girlfriend who has her heart set on getting a Bessa R3a kit from me this year. I find it far less painful buying things like that than tiny pieces of shaped highly compressed carbon.

Also she loves computer games, not playing them, watching me play them! I kid not.
