abhinava
I want to know about the lens quality of Elmar50f/2.8 col. What aboutthe sharpness level of this lens.
C R Utra
Abhinava, I bought mine last year and I am very happy with it. It surprisingly sharp for a lens of this age. Not as much as a new summicron, of course. And besides it is a quite small lens.<div></div>

ulrik
The new Elmar-M 2,8/50 collapsibe gives wonderful crisp 3D-like images. BTW, I will do a side by side comparison with my "new" wartime Carl Zeiss Jena T-coated 2,0/50 mm Sonnar LTM lens in the near future (one like on the cover of Marc James Small's book about non-Leica LTM lenses). neil_gowlland
A very nice slideshow, Trevor. Is your Elmar coated or uncoated? Looks to me as though it could be the latter.
terry_rory
Coated. Latest version.
alastair_anderson
Loved the slide-show. Not the slide-show specifically, rather the photogrpahs shown. Pictures truly worthy of the Elmar!
vic_.
The current 50mm Elmar is a "best of class" lens. IMO it is one of Leica-M's underrated lenses. I've had a chance to use the black and the chrome, and prefer the chrome, it has more heft and better user feel. Either one, the color and sharpness is on a par with the Summicron. You are not giving anything up if you get this lens.
michael s.
Agree with Vic, Trevor, and Ulrik about the modern one, which I have. I believe Carlos is referring to the older Elmar -- no slouch either. A number of forumers really like that lens.
john_boyle3
I've used the older 2.8 Elmar as well as the Summicron for over 30 years and am quite happy with it. If you don't require the extra stop of the Summicron the Elmar will do just fine.
michael s.
With all the talk about lenses, I recommend that others also take a look at <a href=http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=535955>Abhinava's b & w photos</a>. Many excellent pictures.
rjm photo
Trevor Outstanding photographs...and the slide show program you are using works really well.
terry_rory
No credit for the slideshow program. I simply search my flickr photographs for the Elmar 'tag' (or any other tag I want) and then click on 'view as a slideshow'. It is a flickr facility. michael j hoffman
I have two Leicas (M4 & MP). I like the Elmar so much I bought one for each camera. Sharp and VERY contrasty. The chrome version is heavier than the black (I have one of each), but in a way that makes it more robust but not too cumbersome. The chrome version has a better, more deliberate feel to it; but that is subjective. Michael J Hoffman
