wm._kleimenhagen
The EL-2 was the first in the Nikkormat series of cameras to carry the NIKON name. The build, fit & finish of the camera are superb. The plastic you may be referring to was in the infamous AW-1 motor drive for this body. That winder has a non-metal (plastic?) drive gear that failed after minimal use. The camera on the other hand is built like a tank.

berg_na
You can find everything you need to know about the EL2 here: <a href="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/el2/index.htm" target=new>http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/el2/index.htm</a>. There's even more information covered here than in the manual. Check out the different sections: <a href="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/el2/basic.htm" target=new>Basic operation</a>; <a href="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/el2/shutter.htm" target=new>Shutter mechanism</a>; <a href="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/el2/lenscoupler.htm" target=new>Lens mount</a>; etc...<p> <center><img src="http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/el2/images/el2winderblk.jpg"></center>
gary_watson
They're solid as rocks but EL-EL2s are getting quite elderly and a bargain price may simply make it an expensive "disposable" camera, since parts and service are complicated by their age. You might consider an FM2(N) as an alternative in a manual focus Nikon body.
