Corrective Eye Piece

Ernie,

Unless you can NOT get a clear and sharp image of the viewfinder screen (with or without your glasses) by using the built in correction, then there is little benefit to additional corrective eyepieces. If the correction required falls outside the range of the built in adjustment, then an optional corrective lens would probably be beneficial. Then the tricky question becomes ... which one?

Although I don't wear glasses, both my F100 and F4s have a built in diopter adjustment. I find the best way to adjust the viewfinder for sharpest focus is to remove the lens, point the camera at a blank wall, and adjust the diopter control to the position where the focus brackets are sharpest.

Oh ... and you know where to look, right? ;-)
00EXUX-27008984.jpg.b1aab07e2c29f0c6680ad2f98376157c.jpg

The reason I was ask is due to the diopter (viewfinder focus) on the D70 the adjustment range is -5m to +3m and and I notice I had to adjust my diopter all the way to +3 and still was having a hard time focusing I called my doctor and he said my eyes last checked at +1.3... so I was just wandering if anyone had used the corrective eye piece and if so what was the results

Thanks Ernie

Note: I do know where to look and I will try to keep my finger out of my eye :)

The markings in the D70 viewfinder should be sharp when

correctly adjusted via the built in diopter adjustment if the

range includes the value needed for your eyes. The image in the

viewfinder is a different thing entirely.
When adjusted correctly I can see a single back lit silk spider

thread in the D2H viewfinder very clearly and the camera can lock

on easily at a distance of 2 meters. I cant remember if the

lens was a 35~70/2.8D AF or 50/1.8 AF but I was surprised by the

performance. The N80 could not focus on it and I could only

vaguely guess where it was. I carefully tried manual focus and

that didnt help.
I can see the features in both the D2H and N80s viewfinders

equally well when I view though my glasses. My vision is only so-so

without glasses but its 20/15 corrected.
Many claim the viewfinders in economy Nikon models are just fine.

I dont know what they are talking about or perhaps they dont.

There are solid reason for buying the top models. Its

unfortunate that DSLR(s) are so expensive.
Best,
