jason_b.
Does anyone have sample pictures showing the 28 'con's bokeh? I am on the fence about whether to get this lens on the v4 28 Elmarit.
andrew1
I don't have samples to show you ( I don't use a 28 on my Leicas) but dude, weigh the size and speed of these lenses, and it's no contest- the bokeh is likely to be much like the 50 'lux ASPH, which I know you like, so what's the issue? Is it cost?
If you go into one of the shops in town that sell them, someone should loan you the lens to shoot some pics and see for yourself. If you leave another lens as collateral, they should let you out for a couple of hours to play...

jonas_yip1
Here, I just went and took a random picture of the nearest available model, 28 cron wide-open, with busy stuff out-of-focus in the background. This is with an RD-1 so field-of-view is cropped, but plenty of bokeh to inspect. There's a full size version here: http://www.jonasyip.com/photonet/e0.jpg (330k, fairly compressed) j

jonas_yip1
this isn't relevant to the original question, but out of curiosity I went and took the same picture with the Nikkor 28mm 1.4 on a D1x just to see if it was grossly different bokeh-wise. Turns out they don't look all that different... j
jason_b.
I've been looking for sample pictures on the forum- I know there have been a bunch. I can't seem to find any. Thanks Jonas for your image. It looks pretty much fine. Hard to tell from one sample though. Are there any aperture and focal distances where it is really gnarly? kent_tolley2
This is the 28mm f/2 Summicron Asph. The shutter was too long to stop the action so there's a hiccup. But this will give you an idea of what the OOF areas look like with this lens.

kent_tolley2
Sorry that's 50/2 not 28.
henry_a
If money is not a big deal for you then get the Summicron and remember to shoot it open at f2 or 2.8 often. Mostly its just clean well corrected modern lens bokeh and super razor sharpness in focus. Sometimes it gets a little swirly OOF at f2 (in a good way). Do you think you'll use it a lot or is it just a fill-in so you are covered in that focal length? The Summicron has -great everything- but the price. It'd be one of the last lenses of mine I'd ever turn loose of.
kent_tolley2
reset. I checked the roll this came from and it IS 28/2.

anand_n._vishwamitran
This was shot at f5.6 with the 28 'cron. Perhaps not the 2.0 bokeh you're looking for, but I think the rendition of the OOF areas contribute to the appeal of this image:
kent_tolley2
After these shots with the 28/2 Asph I bought one within a week.

Roger Michel--
