stwrtertbsratbs5
I need to add a medium telephoto to my 645 kit. I've read some mixed reviews of the 210mm f4 N lens - complaints of pincusion distortion and vignetting. But I've found very little on the 200 f2.8 APO lens. Anyone care to offer experiences with either one, or both, of these lenses? Thanks, Robert
scott levine
I had the 210 for many years and it is a good lens for the money but if you can swing the extra money, go with the 200 APO. It is definitely sharper and color fidelity wide open is fantastic. Not to mention easier to focus. But all this comes with a chunky price-tag that's worth it. stwrtertbsratbs5
Used 645 gear has really dropped in price. KEH has an excellent + 200/2.8 for $850. Seems pretty reasonable. And I'll put one on my Christmas list (To: Robert From: Robert). Robert
eirik berger
I bougt the 200mm f2,8 APO a year agoThe lens costed a lot but it is probably the best thing I have done in years. The lens is outstanding! I have never used it wide open bit ut performs very well at f5,6. I havent tried the 210mm begore, and frankly I dont care because I am in love with the APO. I bought the lens to do a job that involved photographing FMX performer Ailo Gaup doing different stunts on his bike. I have attached a link that shows one of the images from that job: http://foto.no/cgi-bin/bildegalleri/vis_bilde.cgi?id=170849 (Mamiya 645 ProTL, 200mm f2,8 APO @ f11, 1/1000 sek, Fuji Provia 400F) On the original photo you can "feel" the texture on the google-strap and read the extremely small letters on his helmet. This lens has made it possible for me to use medium format in action-photography, earlier I used small format or DSLR for purposes like these. Good luck! stwrtertbsratbs5
Nice shot, Eirik! I want that lens! Of course, your skill in capturing that shot is impressive. Robert
