bill_rubie
I have an image quality problem after using PSCS to prepare images for the web. First I reduce the image dimensions(longest side to 500 pixels), then use 'convert to profile' to change profile to sRGB, and finally go to 'Save For Web'. The image size of about 100k looks fine previewed in SFW, and also when viewed in the normal PS workspace, but when viewed in browsers (netscape, mozilla, IE) the image has very noticable wave like aberrations all over it. Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong? Bill
Ed_Ingold
It could be your settings in ImageReady. Please submit an example and describe your settings. PC or Mac?
bill_rubie
Im using a PC.Which settings do you mean? Here is an example....
Ed_Ingold
The settings in ImageReady are on the right side of the page - file type (JPEG, GIF, etc), Quality, Optimized?, Progressive?, etc. An optimized JPEG of this pixel size would be about 50K. As you note, it looks fine to me in PS. It does not open up inline in this thread, despite that it is less than 520 pixels wide, and I can't seem top view it in Internet Explorer. Perhaps the size is at fault. It opens in PS for me at 480K, with an sRGB color space tag in place.
Ed_Ingold
I was able to open the file in IE. It looks fine to me - no noticeable aberations. I have XP Pro, SP2 and IE6.
sean de merchant httpw
You need to give a caption to an uploaded image if you want it shown inline in a thread. As to the the image, it looks okay to me. Have you calibrated your display? enjoy, Sean
markci
Looks fine to me too. No banding. You may have some sort of web accelerator software running that's recompressing and screwing up images.
patricklavoie
On my calibrated srceen the only thing i can see is the file is to majenta....5% maibe to be remove....but thats not Image ready fault.
conrad_hoffman
Looks perfectly nice to me. I've had similar things happen that are related to display size, image resolution, and display resolution. What is the resolution of your display, the physical size, and how large does the 500 pixel dimension display. Do you have some kind of interpolation problem? berg_na
I don't have any problems viewing your image using IE6.

bill_rubie
Well, i checked the image settings in Image Ready.... Dimensions: 500w by 396h Quality is 60 Non-Progressive Optimized on Original/Optimized file sizes -100k/41.11k Screen Resolution 1600 by 1200 15" Display Physical Size of Image: 3.75 inch in width by 3 inch high I checked some of the affected photos in IE on a friends computer and they look fine there. The problem seems to be with my browsers/ImageReady....
bill_rubie
Also, just checked interpolation settings in ImageReady. It is set to the Bicubic option...
bill_rubie
Just thought of one other thing! The wave-like aberrations appear all over the sky area of the photos, but the rest of the picture is always unaffected....
Ed_Ingold
1200x1600 in a 15 inch display is pushing the envelope - way too high for a 15" display. I would expect 768x1024 to be normal. You may be seeing aliasing due to resampling. The color space might be limited to 16 bits instead of 32 bits or even 24 bits (which is marginal by today's standards). Check the specifications for your monitor (including the nominal size) and set the driver to the recommended resolution and refresh rate. You also lose resolution if the the refresh rate is too high for the resolution, monitor or card.
chris_ladoulis
Bill, the wavy lines you describe sound like an image being displayed with a smaller color depth (16-bit). Any chance your 'Save for Web' dialog box ended up with a .GIF option in the Settings? or perhaps the graphics card/display settings on the machine you're using for the browsers is set to 16-bit?
