Difference between Mamiya 645 AFD and AFD ii

Hi Forum

I have read the only two posts that I can find. Perhaps someone

could corroborate Paul Hu's findings on the difference between AF

speeds between the two cameras. I use a Nikon F100 and a Pentax

67ii.

On the B&H website, it says this of the AFDii "Responding to the

demands of medium format film and digital shooters, Mamiya has

incorporated the latest auto focusing technology into the Mamiya

645AFD II".

How different is the AF on these two cameras, is the newer model

worth the cost, considering the prices of good 2nd hand AFD's?

Can you engage and disengage the T setting with a mechanical screw

in cable release, thereby obviating the need to purchase the

electronic cable release?

Have any if you used a 67 before, if so how did find adjusting to

the smaller tranny and the handling of the smaller camera?

Thanks for your assistance in this regard.

Karl

Karl,

I have PM'd you regarding the some of the differences(not too many) between 645AFD and 645AFDII.

The 645AFDII does not have a 'T' mode for timed exposure, while the 645AFD does. In place of the 'T' mode on the exposure knob, the 645AFDII has the 'CF' for custom functions.

In 'T' mode, you can use a mechanical shutter release cable screwed into the shutter release button. If you have a screw on the cable release, you can lock the shutter release to keep it open. To disengage the 'T' mode, you do not just release the cable, you have to (while the shutter release button is still pressed down) turn the exposure mode setting dial to 'X' to cancel the 'T' mode and the shutter closes.

The 'T' mode uses mechanical control, so it will NOT drain the battery to keep the shutter open, but the bulb mode uses electronic control, so the batteries are in constant use during the entire exposure.

I have never played with the 6x7 format, but I have the Hasselblad which is 6x6. I am looking for Mamiya 7II in the used market

Could someone share the more extensive list of differences/improvements between the AFD

II and AFD? I currently have an AFD but I'd like to find out whether I'd gain very much by

upgrading the body to an AFD II or not. The AFD is used with a Kodak 645M - I assume ht

enew camera is backward compatible with MSC?

Thanks
