Cap & hood for Minolta Autocord

Hi all, I did a search for this info but I wasn't able to turn up

anything. Just point me in the right direction if I missed something.

I recently picked up a Minolta Autocord (non-metered model). It came

with a leather case but no lens cap(s) or lens hood. If I'm not

mistaken, the Autocord uses a Bay 1 mount. (Yes?)

I know that there are Rollei Bay 1 lens hoods to be found on the used

market. I also know that they are recommended for use on the Yashica

124 series cameras, so I was going to get one for the Autocord. Then I

thought that it might cause vignetting due to the Autocord's slightly

shorter focal length (75mm vs 80mm). Is this a valid concern? I don't

want to go through the time and expense of getting one if I won't end

up using it.

Second question: Any recommendations for a lens cap for my Autocord?

Are there generic Bay 1 lens caps available?

Oh, one more thing that just occurred to me. My cable release sticks

out in front of the camera very close to the taking lens due to the

location of the shutter release; I'm concerned it will end up in the

pictures I take with it. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Russ, there are many places you can find these supplies, but I'll just name a couple I've used. Yes, the Autocord uses Bay I mounts, like Yashica TLR's, the early Rollei's, the Ricoh Diacords, ect. Any cap for these camera's will interchange, but the Minolta cap is the best quality one! Try Goodwin Photo in San Diego, Pacific Rim in Oregon, or Ritz Collectables in Phoenix. I have found hoods, caps, filters, and rare attachments at these places, and great deals on camera bodies now and then. All are on the web, or can be found at Jeff Albro's links and info page. As for lens shade, my favorite is a square Kodak unit made from polished aluminum, with a Tiffen Bay 1/screw adapter for colored or clear filters. Just make sure it isn't so large it blocks the viewing lens, and you should be OK. As for the cable release, route the cable down and around the base of your tripod with some slack in case you tilt or pan. Mine looks like a finger or something when it gets in the image.

I have had an Autocord for years and find it a really great camera. I use it mainly for B&W and find it very contrasty. I bought from Spiratone (1970's) a square lens hood for this camera that allows me to use filters as well. I also found at a flea market, a set of polarizers that are ratcheted together, and I can fit the lens hood over them and add filters over the polarizer. This can really boost the mood in B&W.

I'd say look around for any old Spiratone accessories if you can find them they were pretty good. Spiratone is still around but with much reduced lines of parts. I think it is Spiratone.com.
