It's a rather special purpose lens capable of very high resolutions at specific reproduction ratios. Not suitable or very usable at all for general photography from what I can gather. Look at the similar thread in the Nikon forum. There are more explanations there.

 

These lenses are rare and expensive.

Note that this is screw-threaded...conventional camera mounts aren't desirable because of bulk and inherent sloppiness.

 

I don't believe these lenses were sold through conventional Nikon dealers...only through a few Nikon Medical dealers. Don't recall if EPOI (Ehrenreich Photo Optical, Nikon camera importer/distributer) handled that or if it was another importer/distributor.

 

If you find a microscope supply that sells Nikon equipment they will likely have used lenses. As well they may offer higher resolution alternatives. You're probably aware that Nikon makes electron microscopy equipment...which would require better optics.
