heidi_h.
I have a 10D and set the custom function to take a RAW + Jpeg. Once I download the picture into PE3, how do I just look at the Jpeg without going through the Camera Raw? Is there something I'm missing in regards to the camera settings? Thanks for your help
mcgarity
Off the top of my head I don't know what PE3 is. But if you want to view the embedded jpeg contained in a RAW file you need to extract it using the Canon fileviewer utility. You should have gotten that with your camera. Under the drop down menu it has a provision for extracting the embedded jpeg.
steve_dunn2
I believe she's referring to Photoshop Elements 3.

The 10D writes RAW + JPEG as one RAW file with a JPEG embedded in it. As the previous poster says, you can't get at the file without running a utility to extract it. This is one of the things they improved in later models, like the 20D, which writes them as two separate files, so you needn't process the RAW file in order to view the JPEG.
peter_white2
Is the 10D different from the 20D? With the 20D the camera makes a raw file and a separate JPEG. To look at the JPEG you just open the JPG file. When you download everything from the CF card, both file types are there.
jon_austin
Yes, the 10D is different from the 20D in this respect. See Steve Dunn's post immediately above yours.
heidi_h.
okay. i just went to the utility and couldn't find a spot to get the jpeg. I can view the photo in raw but can i get the jpeg out to look at and edit in PE3 (photoshop elements 3). Is there a way to do this? heidi
mcgarity
I believe what you want can be found under the "file" drop down menu at the top left on your screen in the fileviewer utility. If I remember correctly you click on save and then you can select whether to save the embedded jpeg or save the image as a TIFF image.
