dave henri
I just purchased a new ST-E2 and tried it out with a Speedlite 580EX. It works perfectly and the freedom to move about with no cords or huge speedlite hanging on the camera is wonderful. I spent the entire evening last night trying out every feature and each one worked flawlessly. Highly recommended. My intended use of the combination is location portrait photography. No question, just a comment.
jim_larson1
ST-E2 is the bee's knees. No question. Last year, I went nuts and got a 420EX and ST-E2 to supplement my 550EX. The combination is SO COOL!
peter_white2
Does this unit attach to the camera instead of a flash? And then you position your flash unit somewhere else? Is there a limit to the number of flashes you can use? Thanks,
peter_white2
Just answered my question. This thing looks very interesting!
jim_larson1
Oh no doubt. . .the ST-E2 is an overpriced toy. The only reason I bought one is because it is "cool". Without a doubt, a 550EX and two 420EX's are better, more flexible, and cheaper than a ST-E2, 550EX, and a 420EX.
dan_vidal
ST-E2 rules. "Location Portrait" is the best way to describe a good use for it. There's a limit to the amount of flashes you can control, something like 4...I don't have the manual for mine in front of me at the moment... Really great for unique directional lighting too. Obviously you gotta watch out for lens flare depending on the angle!

peter_white2
Jim, What if you don't want any light on axis with the lens? Can that be done with a flash on the camera?
gus1
>What if you don't want any light on axis with the lens? Can that be done with a flash on the camera? Yes, you can use the on-camera flash to "only" control the other flashes with the pre-flash. Also, technically there is no limit to the number of flashes that you can control, however, you can only control them as groups or "banks" of flashes: "A" "B" and "C" (or "A" and "B" for the ST-E2)

dave henri
Puppy Face, I read your review of the ST-E2. Nice review and I agree. It's a nice piece of equipment to have when you move around.
