frederick_muller
This is real Jeopardy type stuff ... does anybody know how many screw mount rigid 50mm Summicrons were ever produced? I mean "real" ones with the lens serial number identical to the focusing mount serial number?
canfred
The official number is 1160 starting with 1590000.There was also a Compur version ( inbuild shutter ).
richard s.
One of my Japanese leica books (Leica lens no subete) puts it at approximately one thousand.
dan flanders
Without quoting the exact figures the "Leica Pocket Book" indicates approximately one thousand.
tim_franklin
Laney's "Collector's Guide" also indicates 1160 in total, with a breakdown as below. 1960 - 551 1961 - 274 1962 - 227 1963 - 108 Laney also mentions that approx 58 rigid mount Summicrons were produced in 1956 with Compur shutters. Whether any were offered for sale is another matter.
frederick_muller
Thanks everyone. These figures all seem to agree, and make total production roughly twice that of the 35mm screw mount summicron. I wonder if that makes the 35mm the rarer lens, or if popularity causes people to hold onto the 50 tighter ...
