joseph_lennox Posted September 16, 2005 Share Posted September 16, 2005 I am thinking about buying an Epson 4800 printer and am aware of some of the costs. Printer $2000, inks $700 for a set of 110 mL cartridges. I calculate that at 16"x24", the paper for each print should cost $1 each. HOWEVER, I am completely in the dark with respect to how much ink will be consumed for such a print. Does anyone have any knowledge of roughly what volume of ink will be expended per print? Thanks! terence_patrick Posted September 16, 2005 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Not specific to the 4800, ink usage in printers varies wildly from print to print. In my R2400, which is pretty much the smaller version of the 4800, my cyan and black cartridges seem to run out the fastest. I've gotten about 30-40 11x14 or 13x19 prints out of a set. patricklavoie Posted September 16, 2005 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Not a scientific answer, but with my 2200, i can print ruffly 40 11x14, 1440 PPI Hispeed....so i assume, since on the 2200 its a 4ml cartridge (25 times smaller than the 110ml) i should be able to print, let say 25x more 11x14 print on my 4800....it come around to 2000 print? not sure if its possible!....i let you know. patricklavoie Posted September 16, 2005 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Sorry, i made a mistake, it come close to a 1000 print...sorry for the miscalculation : ) Anyway since i sell my print like hot cake at 35$ each, times 1000.....its pretty good money! if everithing is well calculated. patricklavoie Posted September 20, 2005 Share Posted September 20, 2005 Another correction! I made a mistake, the ink in the 2200 printer is 13ml, not 4ml....so lets recalculate! 13 ml on a 2200 give me 40 print 11x14. 110 ml on a 4800 should then give me 10x more....around 400 i think. gregg_johnson Posted September 22, 2005 Share Posted September 22, 2005 Here's how I calculate the cost of a print using 220ml Epson 4000 inks. This is based on Epson's price per inks on their website.
At $112.00 per 220ml cartridge - 112/220= .51.
8x10= 80*.51= $41.00
16x20= 320*.51= $163.00
18x24= 432*.51= $220.00
Add in your labor/editing cost and you'll have the price for an unframed image. If the cost of inks go down, past the savings on to your customers.
Or you can go to the following link and figure out Tracking the Cost of Printing with an Epson 4000
Hope this helps,
Gregg Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
