S. Liu's NYC Show reminder

Recommended Posts

For those on the list who find themselves loitering in the soupy

humidity of NYC today -

Sam Liu's show opens this afternoon at A.S. Photo Lab, 11 E 17th St,

which is near Union Square (between US & 5th), from 6 - 8 PM. I think

you basically have your choice of subways, either to Union Sq. or to

the 14th St. stations. Bring your classic camera and we'll turn the

tables on Sam, posting photos here as you get them developed.

You can also get the word from Sam himself here:

(I thought I would start a new thread instead of adding onto the

bottom of the fireworks thread, just to keep things fresh and readily

accessible.)

Good of you to inform us, Jorn. Wish I could be there in person, but vicariously I can be through the photos you and others hopefully will take and post for us. It will be a switch to see Sam as the observed and recorded , rather than being on the other end of a camera. Please extend my best wishes to Sam for a successful show and hope that someone there does a write up and/or review of the show. Then the secret of his great talent can be extended to a wider audience. Raise a toast to Sam for me, Jorn!

Sam,

I celebrate your success. You are not a newbie in Photo.net, nor do I think you are taking advantage of the forum. In fact you have offered to assist in helping to run this humongous organization. I read the threads and saw your offers. Keep on truckin!

Andrew and Arkady,

Thank you for the pictures. I am so surprised that they came out so quickly. I like Andrew's story lines and Arkady's super-wide (15mm, 21mm on D70) shots. None of them could be shot with a Rollei.

We had a good time talking about Photo.net, Holga and Pinhole photography.

The group of senior citizens are friends/family of an old lady (the one in the "fan club" whose back is facing us) I took a picture of at the Red Hook art festival. (She is older than my Rolleiflex ;-) The old man in yellow shirt is a blind sculptor whose work was in the show. (See the image below.) Then we have photo.net guys. In "Sam explaining the finer points of pinhole Holga photography" the lady at the corner is my neighbor. (See my Scoop Sale story.)

In the first two Arkady's photos, there is the guy who is going to have the next show at A.S. Photo Lab. The lady is his daughter. They came to see how a show in A.S. Photo Lab is organized.

After photo.net guys left, Al and his son (see "The portrait of a young man") came. Al closed his store at 7 so they were late. He showed me the negatives from a very interesting Agfa camera that takes 120 film but produces 4x4 cm images. I will try it in the next few days and let you know how it performs.

With me during the full time of show are my friend Barbaros (who gave me the WHATEVER T-shirt couple of years ago) and my wife Weimin. I didn't have chance to talk to them though ;-)

I am very happy with the show. It is not a high art in a museum or gallery but a gathering of friends I met in my photographic advanture.

The party continues here at photo.net.<div>00CnMu-24529384.jpg.5fb3e5d2b0e1ea1dec9b63f7b9fd3a0d.jpg</div>
