jim_a
In the mail today I received a DVD from the LHSA that contains every issue the Viewfinder in PDF format from 1968 to Vol. 38 Numer 1 of 2005. I am not an LHSA member but I did contact them a while back about an issue from several years ago, which they sent to me. I must have gotten on a list since the into PDF states they have a substantial number of these DVD as inducements for new members. The DVD states you cannot sell it. Here is some LHSA info in case you want to contact them: Inquiries about membership, upcoming events, replacement Viewfinder issues, and special orders should be directed to: Madge Brown, P.O. Box 7607, Louisville, Kentucky 40257, 866-441-1hsa (5472) (toll free US) or 502-895-7272. Fax 1- 888-396-0919. E-mail at LHSA@bellsouth.net Did anyone else get one of these of did I just get lucky? shambrick007
IF I were less than scrupulous, I'd ask you to burn me a copy! IF that is ;-)
jerry_lehrer
I am a member of LHSA, and I received my CD-ROM, but it seems that it does not load. It just spins and spins. Or maybe i'm not giving it enough time to load. How long does it take you? Yes, my C drive is for CD-ROM discs. Jerry
stuart_richardson
It is a DVD is not a CD-ROM, which may be why it does not work on your computer. I got mine, it works fine. I don't think I will ever have time to read the last forty years of viewfinders, but it is nice to know that they are there.

johns1
How Jim got the DVD without being a member is something for the LHSA board to investigate. (I have not yet received mine but living in the backwater town that I do, I have learned to be patience in dealing with the USPS.) I am glad however that this casts a spotlight on the Viewfinder, the LHSA's superb quarterly journal. It is always a fascinating read and a useful resource that even the casual Leica admirer will reference again and again. Join the LHSA for all the friendships you'll make through the years but DO join it even if you only want to get the valuable Viewfinder four times a year. My family knows that I'm lost to them for the evening on the day each new issue arrives. Visit www.lhsa.org to join. Do it today!
george_b1
Jack - Ours came, via snail mail, in a square mailer that just contained the DVD. Although our name and address was clearly printed on the mailer, some congentinal idiot in the Postal "Service" had run off and attached two bar code strips, at 90 degree andles, that apparently assisted in sorting. One was half-way torn off, and the other was perpendicular to the LHSA mailing label and ran through the preprinted mailing "stamp." Go Figure! Hope you receive yours soon. peter_a._klein
. . . TO JERRY LEHRER. . . Jerry: The DVD may not play automatically, depending on your computer setup. And it's not like a movie. It's just a collection of Adobe PDF files of the various Viewfinder issues. There's also a "Topical Index" that links subjects to individual issues (but does not jumpt to the exact page number, you have to go there yourself). The following assumes you have a PC. Your best bet is to put the DVD in your DVD-capable drive. Wait about 10 seconds, then double-click on your "My Computer" icon. Find the drive letter of your DVD drive and double click on that. You should see the root directory of the DVD. - Introduction.pdf has rudimentary instructions on how to use the CD. - Readme.txt tells how to obtain Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is needed to read the pdf files. Many people already have this. - Topical Index.pdf is the index. You could also go into the Publications folder and browse the issues individually. Hope this helps. --Peter
jerry_lehrer
Peter---I did all that and it does work now. I am overwhelmed by 7000 pages of "Viewfinder". Jerry

johns1
See, patience works: mine arrived today intact Any ideas how to make this disk play on a Mac? Thanks! -jb
stuart_richardson
Jack -- just double click on the cd icon. It will open up the folder and then you can open up whichever issue you desire.
