karl_yik5
hi all I have just replaced a light seal on an A12 back and have noticed that on occasions I have a sharp 'triangle' shaped streak of light coming from the right side of a photo. This is definately a form of light leak, however I cant figure out where it comes from as I dont think its from the light seal side. This phenomenon doesnt happen on every photo, just occassioanly which is annoying Any suggestions? I would post an example photo, but dont know how to post photos onto this site! scott levine
Keep in mind that the image is upside down in the back of the camera. Look on the left side of the camera and back for your light leak. Check for a missing screw.
Ed_Ingold
A triangle from the right side of the photo (viewing the slide or print) is consistent with a leak in the darkslide seal. There's a trick to replacing the metal foil without wrinkling it, and any distortion will result in a light leak. (I use the darkslide flat against the back (from the "wrong" edge) to hold the bottom and foam of the seal in place, and the cover to bend the seal over the end of the darkslide like a sheet metal brake. I then withdraw the darkslide and screw the cover down without letting go of the seal.)
35mmdelux
I use the dark slide in its groove to conveniently hold the mylar / foam in place. Once that is secured, I then place the facia board (the part that goes to the camera) onto the film back and screw it on. Double check it at first. Once you get the hang of it its really easy. 35mmdelux
Facia board - for clarification what I meant was the frontpiece of the film back that faces the camera. I hope that helps.
Ed_Ingold
The last seals I bought fron Hasselblad (New Jersey) were thin stainless steel with polyurethane foam. AFIK, only the third-party and homemade versions are Mylar.
tarashnat
Karl, Light leaks depend on the intensity of light, the duration of exposure to that light and the angle of incidence of the light. Unless the camera was always pointed in the same direction and you took the same amount of time between shots, you will end up with with what seem like random occurences. You can post a photo in your gallery, and link to it here... or host it online elswhere, and either link to it or use HTML to embed it. colin jackson
I replaced my seals with great care on 3 A12's with Hasselblad factory seals and they leaked when tested in the sun with the dark slide going in and out several times. I tried the homemade ones with the thicker foam (no cheaper) and they work great. I can't make them leak. Go figure. This topic was covered extensively on this forum a few months ago.
