ben conover
Not to worry, there are so many ways of lighting that it would take forever to learn all of them. I prefer natural light personally, I don't use filters either. Some people will always prefer studio lights and all that goes with it, there are reams of material on this site to read through. Perhaps you could say what kind of images you prefer or want to make, it helps to have that in mind. I like to do environmental portraits of people outside when it is not too sunny. I love light patterns, shade, haze, mist, and rain. Selective focus, so the composition is layered and not too pin-sharp. Over-cast days are good for shooting motorcycles, keeps the chrome under control because the light is diffuse and not very strong. There are some very interesting lighting themes posted by Admin. regularly, it helps to try different things. Anyhow, I could ramble on like the beginner I am, have fun with your own lighting techniques, whatever they may be. Cheers.
