andrew_pastore
Does the lens hood mount on the moveable portion of the lens, or is it like the 24-70 and have a non moving hood and a reverse zooming operation? Andy
jbq
From the pictures on the Canon site it seems to mount on the outermost part of the lens, the mobile one, like for consumer zooms.
bill_goldman
Jean-Babtise is correct. The hood mounts on the outside of the filter ring. BTW, the hood is a petal type shape and fairly small, so it probably shades best at the wide angle setting of the lens, when the front is retracted. The front extends at the most when the lens is zoomed to 105mm. I saw a picture of the hood on a Japanese sight but didn't bookmark it. I will try to find it again. bellavance
Too bad it isn't like the 24-70/2.8L where the lens retracts at its longest end, so the hood always has the perfect depth. This must be why the 24-70 has a big deep hood while the 24-105 has a shallow (useless?) hood. Pierre
bill_goldman
Here's a picture of the 5D with the 24-105L lens complete with lens hood:<div></div>
turgut_tarhan
I don't like lens hoods, they look bulk. If there's any flare, I use my hand. Simple :)
jon_austin
Wow, that "hand model" must be a big guy! The 5D looks positively tiny in his grasp...
bill_goldman
It's just perspective distortion. The photo was obviously taken with a wide angle lens.
