"The real thing" from Hasselblad/New Jersey.(A-12 back seals)

I recently purchased two light kits from Dick Werner, to replace

the light seals on my A12 backs.

Much to my dismay, the foam portion had no backing, less density and

3 times the thickness of the O.E.M. foam.

When compressed to fit into the well it compresses and sticks out in

the most precarious fashion.

I sent back the kits and contacted hasselblad directly.

The light trap part# 13067 $5.50

The foil part# 13508 $2.84

Cost for 2 day Fedex shipping Around $7.00 (to California)

I bought 3 kits.

These kits really fit.

Why would anyone bother with anything less than original parts at

this price point.

Nicole stated that they have plenty of stock on hand.

Those are the same ones that are being resold on eBay for $25 buy it now or $20 starting

bid. An entrepreneur at work there! I must admit I bought some of those and also DW's

big puffy ones.

Thanks for the heads up, Ruben.

One warning though. Even with the Hasselblad parts, make sure you test for leaks after

installing. When installed carefully as directed mine leaked in 2 different backs with 2

different attempts before I had some success by altering them. I will not go on about it

again it is covered in a recent post by Paul.

Thanks for the info Ruben. Never realised the "real thing" parts were so cheap!

One correction though...

Er, RTFM. You're supposed to tuck any overhanging foam under the mylar foil with a small screwdriver before reassembling the back :?)

Andrew.

you are correct. A major problem when the foam is so light and fluffy, without a foil back.

Not so with the O.E.M. kits.

The foam is of a greater density and backed with the same foil,

holding its position in the well without distortion.

Foam potentially shearing off into the film path with the non O.E.M.,

bad.

This is the last time I am going to humiliate myself on this topic. My "adapted" Hasselblad

parts are shredding the foam strips so cutting them narrower didn't work. I still can't

figure why my genuine Hassy seals wouldn't work for me as directed and DW's puffy foam

strips are working great when installed full width as shipped. Obviously I goofed

somewhere. I intend to get more Hassy seals direct this time and try again in a year when

I renew.
