idoy
The EF 85/1.8 is out of stock (back-ordered) for some time now in B&H and Adorama. They say they can't tell when it'll be available. Does anybody have an idea what this might mean, or - from past experience - how long it can be before it's back in stock again?
jon_austin
It's probably because of the rebates currently being offered and coming to a close soon. People who want the lens are "firing the trigger" on their purchase decisions, and that's causing a short-term back-order situation. I bought mine a year ago, and it definitely lives up to its reputation.
jim_larson1
B&H has been out for awhile. Got mine from KEH.
idoy
I'm not sure the rebates can explain it, because the gray market version (on which there's no rebate) is also out of stock.
john_f._lemke
Try here: http://www.normancamera.com/shop/SearchResults.asp?ProdStock=2519a003 Don't know how the price compares. Spectacular service, however.

jon_austin
Ido Y: "I'm not sure the rebates can explain it, because the gray market version (on which there's no rebate) is also out of stock." I would imagine that buyers find the US version in short supply (whether due to rebates or not) would inevitably increase the demand for the grey market version. chiswick_john
Rumor has it that it is being replaced with an EF-S version with a max aperture of 2.8, 2 less glass elements and the focus mechanism from the EF-S 18-55. Canon are worried their Longer lenses are outperforming their wide ones and it's cheaper to replace the long stuff with inferior performers than to improve the wide ones. chiswick_john
Only joking - but thinking of selling mine and replacing it with the Tamron 28-75 to partner my 16-35L and 50 1.4.
m3rdpwr
I bought mine from dell for about $280 after some creative coupons. They said it would ship in September, but I got it two weeks ago. Look around for some coupons. Good luck! -Mario
