Saving battery in 1969 Olympus 35SP

Just barely under the 1970 wire is the Olympus 35SP which apparently

went into production in 1969.

I have been impressed for the past few months with what I get out of

my little Olympus 35EC and so went in search of a camera in that line

but with a faster lens: thus my "new" 35SP. Anyone used one much? I

like a lot of stuff about it (fast, sharp lens; manual override on

good exposure meter; spot meter; easy loading...) but am perplexed by

the meter which does not seem to turn off. Is this one of those

cameras that "turn off" when no light reaches the meter? In this case,

it would mean using a camera case because the meter is on the camera body.

I've just been taking my battery out when not in use.

Any other suggestions? Am I missing something obvious?<div>00DOyd-25432884.JPG.471bf95071eae2504533c305c8975707.JPG</div>

I use one, great lens and spot meter, but shutter is a tad loud on mine compared to most

other compact fixed-lens RF cameras.

AFAIK, no way to turn off the meter. Putting the camera in a dark bag or drawer should

help limit the drain on the battery.<div>00DOyw-25432984.jpg.843253ce8d610233acefbd580f81005f.jpg</div>
