g_rard_morris
Hi All!I'm using an f2.8 35-70 mm Canon zoom, which is giving excellent results (for a zoom) however I can't fathom the lens hood, which seems to rotate with the focussing ring. This seems strange since I would have thought that (being a flower or petal type) it would stay aligned with the picture format, which is only the case when the lens is set to infinity. What's wrong?Regards to allGerard
casualcollector
The actual lens hood for that lens is a seperate, round, rubber hood designated W-69. I think the cutout rim of the focusing ring is a styling excercise. I've owned one of these lenses for nearly thirty years and it's my favorite zoom. conrad_ohnuki
Are you refering to the short, built in hood at the end of the focusing ring or the independent rubber hood? I never understood the design of the front of that lens. My guess is that though it's so short it will not have much of an effect regardless of which ways it's alligned Canon assumed the focusing range most likely to be used was infinity so made the hood most effective alligned at that. nice lens otherwise.
