max_sherry1
Are all the shutter speeds on the canon ae1 mechanical? Meaning I could use the camera minus the mtere without a battery? Thanks!
rick_hensil
sorry Max, the AE-1 is dead as a doornail without its battery. In Canon FD your best option is the Canon F-1. (I have an extra, but I am hesitant to plug it too much outside of the classifieds :)
douglas_green1
It's doubtful that someone who is asking basic questions about the Canon AE-1 would be a proper person to get an F-1. More appropriate would be a Canon TX or Canon FTb. Those cameras would use FD-mount lenses and can operate without a battery (except for their meters). They also would cost a fraction of what an F-1 would cost.
gnashings
Canon EF - most of the F1's capability, lower cost - most shutter speeds mechanical (all above 1/2 sec), higher flash synch (125) than most FD bodies. Reliable and a joy to use. I just got one when - guess what - my AE1 started going electronically wiggy.
._._z
If you can remember to bring film, you can remember to pack a tiny exta battery.
gnashings
OK... and for those of us who are not perfect and occasionally forget something...
._._z
If you forget to put film in your bag you're f**ked too.
gnashings
Maybe I am too damn old.. but when I think "photos" I think : FILM, CAMERA - not batteries, so I wouldn't exactly put them in the same category or likelyhood of being remembered or forgotten. And I think this post will conclude this test of the limits of mature discussion on my end - unless there is something CONSTRUCTIVE to discuss... ._._z
Age has nothing to do with it. It's openness to new things. Lots of old people ride cars instead of travelling by horse, too.
