sliu
Dear friends of Classic Cameras Forum,
I have been a passionate participant of this forum since I "joined the club with a Kinaflex". Encouraged by you, I made photographs and post them in a crazy rate during the past few months. I thank you for taking time to read and comment about them. Although I ususally don't reply to your comments in words but you know I do reply in images. And I am grad to see this "contagious fever" being spread over the community and many people start to use classic cameras taking non- trivial photographs with passion. There is no reason to stop the "disease".
But it is time for me to take a break and enjoy the unphotogenic hot summer of New York City in my cool air-conditioned apartment. I will come back in a few months with snow pictures. If you miss my posts, please take your time to enjoy this long list of my burst of photographic passion.
See you in a few months.
S. grahams
Sam - don't stay away too long - by the time there's snow in NYC, I'll be suffering from "Sam Withdrawl" syndrome and may get very crotchety...bless you!

thanz
Man, what a list! You have inspired many here to do one thing.......get off our butts and shoot. Collecting older cameras is nice but using them is alot more fun! I have always been entertained by your images, especially the angles and choice of subjects, I sometime wonder if I came to New York if it would be as interesting as your pics are ;-) . Before I came here I was toying with the idea of getting a TLR, your posts cemented the idea and now I have three. Thanks for stoking the fire Sam, stay cool! mskovacs
Interesting language being used here: "been had", "your people". I can't say I like what this forum has been turning into of late. The pissing contests are spoiling the mood for me in a bad way. Here is a man that is a proficient shooter and active participant that produces photos using classic TLRs that some people enjoy or find provocative. What exactly is the problem? Can we just get on with our lives please?

TomHildreth
Technical criticism of the images made with these old cameras is right at home here. Lens performance, shutter speeds, size, weight, film type- all of this is a good fit in the classic camera forum. There are other more appropriate forums to take up the artistic aspects of the images, to heap the resultant praise and to question the artistic quality. All of this has happened here, however. That seven of the posts were made with a post-1970 camera goes unnoticed in the quick deluge of superlatives. I have no desire to criticize the man's work. Neither do I care to join a cult. xenotar28
"Technical criticism of the images made with these old cameras is right at home here" We like this forum's mix of ideas and photographs. It makes for an interesting place to visit. Even you do. Perhaps your cynical observations are correct, perhaps not. We like Sam's work and feel no reason to think he has been stringing us along. But even if he did, his promotion has encouraged people to post their own photos in Photo.net, and acquire classic equipment for their pleasure. I would consider that beneficial. We have no need to discuss how many angels can dance in the bubbles of a Tessar, and generally skip gratuitous sniping over the artistic merits of posted work. The truth is: we have balance and a spirit of collegiality. Some of the members even get together over a beer to discuss classic cameras. This must be galling to the over regimented and the bored. thanz
From the "about this forum" section: "The forum is focused on the practical use of these cameras rather than collecting them." How much more practical can you get than actually using them, as Sam has shown? Many times with obscure relics that send one off goggling for more info, I had never heard of a Kinaflex, much less having seen pictures taken with one. What Sam has done is present many examples of what different classic cameras can do (through his eyes), he has inspired many to dust off a classic and go out and use it, he has added some interest to a forum that needed it( how many times can you discuss the difference between a compur and prontor shutter?...yawn!) As far as cult status goes.....chill out and drink the koolaid man. Todd
vivek iyer
Sam, I will be looking forward to your return. In the meantime, I will book mark this thread in which your have summarized your prolific and sunbstantial work to look at, study and learn from (no none of the stuff you have posted is suits any of my "style"-whatever that may be. But this does not prevent me from appreciating something different). Had I been living around your neighborhood, I would have visited your exhibition- no, I would have been a volunteer poster boy to stick/distibute promotional pamphlets about the exhibition of your work.
