brian_walton
I'm looking for a Hasselblad (500 series) tele converter than can be put in the bag for the odd occassion. I have been offered either the Komuru and Vivitar at very good prices. The converter will be used with my 150mm Sonnar. Has anybody had any experience with either of the brands above. Does one get what you pay for with converters? with thanks Brian
stephen_kruft
I think the Komura, which I got for very little money, is fair to good, with some noticeable reduction of quality, the same idea as the 35mm ones. So yes, I got what I paid for. I have never used it with a 150 though. A big chunk of glass to carry around. I see it as good for someone who very rarely needs the longer lens. Probably I should not have bought it, because I almost never use an MF lens longer than a 150 (or 105 in 35mm, or on the Mamiya TLRs, 180). q.g._de_bakker
And i have the Vivitar.
Not stunning. Some distortion. But for the odd-occasion, 'good enough' (the trick is not to expect more than you will get. If you manage that, you will never be disappointed. ;-))
ulrik
The Vivitar works for me. I once got a brand new Komura Teleconverter from someone for free. He said that it's optical quality resembled the bottom of a russian beer bottle. I did not test it, just broke it apart to use the rear bayonett to adapt a 120 mm CZ Biometar to my Hasselblad. larry_menzin
If you want to spend a little cash, the 1.4XE does a good job. I don't see much of an optical penalty with it.
jean-louis llech
Brian, forgive me to write that, but I consider it's a pity to use a lens like a Sonnar with such a converter.
It's not snobbishness, but IMHO, as to use a converter with a Sonnar, it might be better to find a 2XE Hasselblad Converter.
