geoff_cheshire
Hi all. After getting my new D50, SB-600, and the 18-70 zoom (to addto my 35mm f/2 and 70-210) I've outgrown my old Lowepro Orion I. Also, I'd like to have something a little more city-travel friendly, something that doesn't look too much like a camera bag. I've been looking at the Think Tank Speed Freak, Lowepro StealthReporter 200 AW, Domke J-3, but am still unsure. Some have recommended the Timbuk2 messenger bags with inserts. Ireally like the look of the bags and the 3rd leg strap. Also, it'spretty cool to be able to customize colors, and the black Pro baglooks nice as well. So, if I go Timbuk2 over the TT, Lowepro, or Domke, which size shouldI get? Medium looks pretty good. Then, what inserts should I get? The Domke ones look like they mate to velcro on the interior of Domkebags; the Timbuk2 won't have any velcro. Is that a problem? Thanks in advance for any help! stwrtertbsratbs5
Take a look at Billingham inserts - they are very nice.
._._z
Get a real waterproof bike messenger bag for $45 and then buy wraps for your gear. Mine has lasted for years and doubles as an airline carry-on bag and a heavy-duty tote for grocery shopping.
stwrtertbsratbs5
I meant look into Billingham inserts to go inside of a Timbuk2 bag.
geoff_cheshire
Robert, any ideas on which style of insert, on how to lay out the inside of the bag?
stwrtertbsratbs5
I've seen both the Timbuk2 bags and the Billingham inserts - but not together. My friends own both, but not the same friend! I'd just pick the Timbuk2 bag and check the specs on the inserts - mix and match to your equipment.
barry schmetter
Domke also makes excellent inserts. Anything bigger than a medium Timbuk2 is huge, so either a small or a medium would probably work. I have a Timbuk2 Commute bag which I use for an all purpose bag and it does pretty well as a photo bag because of the padding. Check their website because they have some new bags that might work as well.
michael foy
I really like the Lowepro backpack. It's comfortable. And looks like any other backpack to me. The messenger bag feels awkward to carry and actually bothers my back because of the one strap setup.
srileo
The Tamrac Velocity 9? I have been pretty happy with mine.
