VC 40/1.4 (and others) won't take B+W filter

My new VC 40/1.4 lens will not take the B+W UV 43mm filter. A friend

of mine has the VC 75mm and said the same thing about that lens.

However, his lens does accept the Hoya filter. I will try a Hoya

filter at BH next time I'm there.

 

Does anyone know for certain that this is a known feature of these

lenses? My other VC lenses (90 and 21) fit just fine.

It hasn't been a problem for me. My 40/1.4 Nokton & my 75/2.5 Color-Heliar take 43mm B+W filters (MRC), bought from B&H & via eBay, just fine. However, IME, there is some variation in filter threads, for lens, filters, & other screw-in accessories (hoods, etc.) that may make a given filter/hood more difficult to attach to a given lens than another.

Could be the pitch and not diameter is the problem. 40 Summicron c takes 39mm, but with a different pitch than the whole rest of the line.

Same experience as Christopher Chen, no problem with B&W on either lens.

Well that goes to show you , CV quality contol stinks. Someone else had to jam on the lens shade at the instruction of the dealer. And there are stories of the lens not mounting on all bodies. And I got a 75mm viewfinder with crooked frame lines.

No problems with any of my C/V lenses except for a cheap S&W 43mm filter that is too fat

to fit under the 40's hood. But that is a filter problem, not a lens problem.

Neither of my B+W E43 MRC uv and E43 yellow have any trouble mounting on my CV 40mm. That E43 came off of my other CV which is the 75mm. Does it say "E43" on your filter?

My filter does not say E43, Just B+W 43 010 UV-Haze 1x and F-Pro on the side. Perhaps I

need the E43. Will try at BH.

No problems with any of my CVs (VCs?) I don't think their quality control stinks, it might be a bit less stringent than Leica's but who cares for the price.

I have had the exact same problem. I tried a B+W UV filter off a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 Rangefinder lens (Its not a MRC filter) and it didnt screw in either. I figured there may be something wrong with the chrome threads as you are the third person to raise this problem. Havent B+W gone to aluminium mounts now? The one I tried was one of their older brass filters. I read with interest to other responses.
