Gary Naka
On a 500C/M, on the left side below the name plate, there is a small hole with what looks like a pin in the middle. What is this hole for? thanks Gary

q.g._de_bakker
Gary,

With a pin in it?
If it is the one nearest the front of the camera, when there are two holes below the name plate, it is a flash socket. A flash connected to it fires when the two doors in the back are open. It is used when not using a shuttered lens, for instance when the camera is mounted on a microscope.

If it is the only hole, the pin will be a broken off remainder of the cable hook. The cable hook is a tiny "?"-shaped thing, that fits into this hole (which, by the way, is the rear one if there are two holes), and is used to hook the flash cable in, holding it, taking the strain away from the PC-synch socket on the lens. Gary Naka
re pinWhen I look into the hole, there is a pin in the center, but about half way down. Makes me think of a PC cord, but with a lower pin.
