robert_finkelman
Hi everyone. I just saw that B&H photo has a brand new 80-200 AF-S in light grey in stock. I was wondering if anyone new of a source of new-old-stock of the lens in black. Anyone have a lead? Thanks, Rob

robert_finkelman
Lee - WOW! Thanks for the tip. I've been looking for one for a while. I primarily use an F5, but I also use an F4 which cannot use the 70-200 because of the lack of an aperture ring. I have read that the 80-200 and the 70-200 are extremely close in terms of optical performance, so I don't feel like I'm loosing out on anything. I don't really care about the VR, as it's not important for my uses. Thanks again! Rob
travel gypsy
Ok studpid question of the day...with the VR version of this lens, could you use it without a tripod? I have the 18-200VR and love it, but need a faster lens for indoor shooting when I can't use a flash..

charles_miller
Rob, I have a minty example for sale. I bought it brand new at Epperson Photo in Oklahoma City, and I put a 77mm Cokin filter on it before it left the store. Later, I put a B&W filter on it. It has ALWAYS had a filter on it. I have shot shot eleven 36-exposure rolls that I can remember, and I have also handled it on my N90s a little bit. So the total number of actuations is probably around twelve rolls. It is in "demo" condition at least, maybe even mint. If you can't find a reasonable deal elsewhere, I am prepared to be reasonable. Check my references on photo.net. I also have other excellent references. If interested, please contact me at chasmill@mfire.com Cheers, Charlie
lee hamiel
Rob: I wasn't thinking about the use with an F5/F4 so the 70-210 is out. I also feel that the last poster may have a good deal for you ... Good Luck
david_le1
You dont need an aperture ring to run on film. As long as its not DX, which the 70-200 isnt, is still usable with AF cameras. and what the heck is the 70-210mm vr? is this a typo from the 70-200? robert_finkelman
"You dont need an aperture ring to run on film. As long as its not DX, which the 70-200 isnt, is still usable with AF cameras. " Um... yes, but it helps to be able to control aperture from the camera when using a G-type, don't you think? The F4 doesn't have a command dial. ShunCheung
You can use a G lens on the F4; just use either the P or S mode. In S, when you set the shutter speed, you are also indirectly setting the aperture. Not the most convinent way to use it, but it is usable. The same applies to the N8008 and N90 series. You will lose the VR capability on those bodies with only 1 AF point, though.
todd_phillips1
Robert, I love my 80-200AFS...I've used it for numerous jazz/blues performers as well as many, many dance concerts. It performs magnificently!! I usually use it on a mono-pod for these, but not always. It's a great lens and I don't feel the need to get the VR lens.
