arthur_nyc
Hello Group, Is it possible to use the zone system with a modern light meter? A meter that has no Zone system attached to it anywhere? I have been given a Sekonic L-398M and would like to use it with the Zone system so any help would be appreciated. Thanks again Arthur
ted_adamczyk2
In response to your question, ABSOLUTELY. There are many sources of information. If you are shooting B/W do a "google" search on "zone." If you shoot slides, do the search on "ChromaZone" as a starting point. Good luck.
Ed_Ingold
The Sekonic 398 is an incident/wide-angle reflected light meter. It is much easier to implement the Zone system with a spot meter. The Sekonic 558 is a 1 degree spot meter in additition to an incident/flash meter. I have the earlier model 508, which has served me well in this capacity. tito sobrinho
I would agree with Edward. If you want to practice the ZS, get a 1 degree spot meter. For years, I practiced the light measurements using a Weston V, whereas I black paint a cardboard tube, as done by Minor White (lots of walking). The SEI 1 degree spot meter as used by Ansel Adams was a very expensive proposition. After that, I bought the Pentax 1 degree digital and for incident meter usage...Gossen Luna Pro Flash or the Weston V with the invercone, and I am happy ever since.
