duncan robertson
I have a problem with my new (secondhand) Leica M6. The finder LED stays on constantly, except when the dial is set to B. The meter works fine, but never turns off - it's on as soon as you load fresh batteries. The shutter release also works fine - the effect is as though the release is constantly half-depressed, but that isn't the case at least with the mechanical side of things. Is this a problem that anyone else has had? I'm hoping there's a quick fix but I haven't seen anyone with a similar problem on google or in these forums... simon orpen
Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my M6 - I had an estimate of 40GBP to get it fixed and a diagnosis of a faulty transistor but haven't bothered as like you i just turn the meter off by turning it to the B setting. Also of course if you don't advance after shooting then the meter is off as well. I guess this is quite a common problem with the M6 and although it's a nuisance it doesn't alter the performance of the camera in any way!
duncan robertson
Just out of interest, where did you get that quote? I'd like to find a repair shop near me - London - that also reasonable.
brunom
Simon Why do you say it's a common problem just because the two of you suffer from it? I've never had this happen in 20 years and in fact have never heard of it before. Regards Bruno
simon orpen
well I stand corrected, it's an almost unique fault, The text of the email i got from CRR of Luton is as follows: <p>The fault with your M6 is probably due to a faulty transisitor. Hopefully it is not the integrated circuit. The timing of the meter is controlled by a discrete transistor which is switched by the 'IC' chip and this may have gone o/c. The cost to rectify it would be about 40gbp <p>hope this helps
john_r._fulton_jr.
Get it repaired. I've had an M6 (Wetzlar) for almost 20 years. Never had the problem, never heard of it. (But that's just me.) <grin>
brunom
Simon Sounds like it's worth getting fixed, and that will be the end of the problem. Regards Bruno
