zelig
Hi, Similar versions of this question have been posted before, but forgive me as Igive it another go. Can anyone recommend a good, cheap, public/rental darkroom in the NYC area? Thus far, I've heard of PrintSpace (roughly 18/hour...too expensive), the JewishCommunity Center (must be a member), and Latent Image, which seems to havedisappeared. I feel certain that there must be more options out there --especially in New York. I'm a graduate student at the CUNY Grad Center inManhattan and am looking into darkrooms provided through school. When I lived in Rochester, I had access to their Community Darkroom, which waslargely subsidized and stocked by their neighbor, Kodak. Members could printfor $6/HOUR -- CHEMICALS INCLUDED!!! In short, I'm spoiled. Anyhow, suggestions and recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated. Robert
helenbach
If you are a heavy user the Camera Club deal may be the best - you get 624 hours per year for $1400. There seem to be shorter-term deals as well. I'm not a member, so have no direct experience, but some of my friends are. Best, Helen
jason_greenberg_motamedi
The ICP's school used to "hire" people to work as darkroom assistants; mixing chemicals, signing out equipment, et cetera. The ICP pays you in kind, so each hour you work you get an hour in the darkroom. It is not a bad deal if you have time to spare. I can't remember the name of the guy who runs the darkroom, but take a walk to the ICP's school (43rd and 6th Avenue, on the SE corner), convince the guards to let you in, and speak to whoever is in charge of the darkroom at the time.
