jmichaelc
What are the opinions of current and/or previous Sigma 20mm F1.8 owners? Post samples of wide open shots if you have them. Thanks!
brucecyr
Jammey, have you searched here -- someone did an extensive review, there are posts re: this lens, etc. Try pbase.com -- they index their database by lens used, amongst other things. jmichaelc
I have Bruice but many of the opinions i've read are speculation only and not many of them are from actual users with not photo posts to show results etc... Thanks, i will check out pbase. I would still appreciate current owners input and samples.
photo5
I had this lens for a while. I liked the speed, but it wasn't a very sharp lens, and the color wasn't as good as a Nikon. I sold it, and if I needed another 20mm, would get a Nikon. Dave
photo5
Oh, and this lens is huge when you have the shade on. Another strike against it. Dave

johan_ljungstedt
i have got one! Its not sharp on 1,8, if you go to 2,8 its alright, but not good compared to canons 20mm 2,8. I often use it with a circular pol-filter on the sea, then it works alright.. but not good. On the other hand, its cheaper than canons, the sharpness is not everthing. When i compare the colors and contrast are also alrigth, i compare with canons L serie, so thats not realy fair. I could link to some pictures at 1,8 later on if you want! thomas_sullivan
If you need f/1.8 for low light......you don't have any other choice in this focal length. And if you shoot in the "near dark" low light that I tend to, f/2.8 is a joke. That's the bottom line. I own one and would never sell it. Yeah, it's big......but heck, all ultra wides with fast apertures are large. This is slightly larger than my Canon 17-40 L f/4.0, which is what I use in conjunction with the 20mm. Which by the way is how my lens system works. I buy zooms, but in each zooms range, I buy one, maybe two, primes that are the fastest I can afford to buy. The sigma 20mm used in this fashion is a killer combo.
