rscott
I plan on going to Alaska June 1st-June12. It is my 1st time. I'm very exited yet overwhelmed on the planning. I want to see Denali- Kenai Peninsula. I was going to do Denali 1st and then Kenai. The shuttle for Denali doesn't go to Wonder Lake until June 8th. It goes to Fish Creek up until then. My question is, should I go to the peninsula 1st and then to Denali for Wonder Lake? Or is Fish Creek good enough for now? Meaning Denali 1st. I know even for 12 days I'll hardly even see that much. Any suggestions and other places to see/shoot would be greatly apperciated. Thanks, Scott www.rscottphoto.com
ron_niebrugge
I would, it is nice to have the option to go to Wonder Lake, even if you don't travel that far. Most years, spring green would be more of an issue as well - but with this warm spring, summer is well on it's way - maybe two weeks ahead of most years. j_autey
My only experience with Denali was a very wet one, four days of non-stop rain. However I have had a much better time with the Kenai. Rain sure, but it broke mid morning to reveal beautifull shooting days. Just about anywhere in Alaska is a outdoor photographers wonderland, except Anchorage. I prefer the Homer and Valdez area, others perfer the Seward area. I have spent most of my time along the coast when up there and plan to again this June as well. There are a lot of places on the Kenai to hike, and a lot of places to just pull off the side of the road and shoot away. Let me know if you have any specific places in mind. Plus there are a lot of Alaska folks on Photo.net who are very helpfull, as are Alaskan in general.
jeff medkeff anchorage, a
I'd suggest holding out for the Wonder Lake option.
sillas_duarte_jr
go to Seward if it's possible. Lot's of whales, otters, sea lions, and glaciers. Bring a telezoom (above 300) for wildlife) and a wide angle for landscape. I went last year and the trip was amazing. Wait until late evening for nice shots of Mt. McKinley. I got a beatiful one after 11:30 pm. ENJOY!!! IT'S ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING PLACES ON EARTH!
