stuart_richardson
It looks like someone actually used it! How dare they!?!
frederick_muller
I'd be interested to see if it actually trades.
paul_chan4
An identical prototype lens was featured on page 235 of Lager's Vol II publication with a very close serial number. 6-element design works out to about $6500 apiece. That's Leica.
tito sobrinho
"That's Leica". That's rediculous!
albert_smith
Only 40K? If I had that much "extra cash" burning a hole in my pocket, I think I'll load up some faster film, use my Summicron, and pay off my house.
leon chang
Maybe they still trade in stones on this guy's planet. A marvellous laugh nonetheless!
arthuryeo
>It looks like someone actually used it! How dare they!?! Of course, it will be used: it's a prototype and it will be used for demo and proof of concept; possibly, in every meeting to sustain the momentum of the productization. karl_keung
the same lens was sold early this year at igavel: <a href="http://auction.igavel.com/Bidding.taf? _function=detail&Auction_uid1=628708&_UserReference=7F0000014718CA478A4EA7A0D9 3F44C4CD3B"> not bad, huh? User_502260
The novelty factor of having a prototype is quite high but I wouldn't expect this lens to be as good as a 55mm f/1.5 Canon FD Aspherical if you actually wanted to use it.
Rob F.
"productization"?
eliot_rosen1
This is a prototype for the 50/1.2 Noctilux, which was issued only in black anodized finish. There are only a handful of chrome lenses in existence. That said, other prototype Leica lenses (including protypes of lenses that were or were not subsequently sold commercially) have brought only a few thousand dollars, much less than the $ 39,000 asking price for this lens. I am surpirsed that this lens brought so much money at the igavel auction. This has to be some kind of record for a prototype lens.
