rick_helmke
We shot another wedding yesterday, one of the easiest jobs I've ever done. To begin, the bride was a tall blonde, just gorgeous. The bridal party, what can you say? The ugliest girl in the group was a knockout. (That is a left-handed compliment for the sensitive among us.) There were four 10-ish year old girls in white that could not have been prettier or easier to photograph. It was one of those weddings that I could have shot with an Instamatic (or a Holga) and gotten great results. Then just as the ceremony started, a 6-foot long black snake came out of the bushes and headed for the altar. Not sure if it was planned or just a snake being a snake. My wife, shooting a second camera, levitated. Lucky for us one of the guests stepped up and grabbed the snake by the tail and deposited it several hundred feet away in some bushes. The guy looked like he did this twice a day and the snake had no invitation. I'll try and post some of the other shots later but here's one I've not seen here before. todd frederick
A Black Mamba perhaps? Where was this wedding? PS: Holgas Rule. I attaching a Holga lens to my digital SLR! (^O^)
j_c38
I seriously doubt it was a black mamba. If it were, that guy was either incredible stupid or actually knew what he was doing. I venture for the first if thats what it was.
bdp
I agree with JC.. if that were a Mamba, that guys an dope. (wow, the word id-io-t is considered inflammatory on this site? )
rick_helmke
As far as I know Mamba's don't live in Alabama, where we were yesterday. No, this was a plain old black snake. We have plenty of nastier ones but I think this guy would know the difference. Rick H.
scarolinael
The Black Mamba is native to South Africa, I am sure that was just a regular black snake.

savagesax
Think it was a warning that if the goom doesn't behave and gets divorced, his wife is gonna be a mean snake? just kidding folks! hehe GREAT photo!
libbie_mistretta
Wow! Yeah, it looks like just a little black snake to me. Some cultures consider snakes to be very lucky, so for it to appear on your clients' wedding day could be a good sign! Probably is, since you had such an easy time photographing. ;)

BernardMiller
From the looks of it--length, girth and light colored belly, and locality--I'd guess it's one of the various subspecies of Lampropeltis getulus: the common kingsnake. Lots of upclose and personal photos here.
While not a "garter" snake--hah!--these are indeed good snakes to have around, as they are death to rats, mice--and other snakes.
Nice photo!
