marc_mccoy1
Hey everyone I have a question and would like some input. I am looking at Meters, What I would use it for is Scenery,Studio, out door portraits, I am looking at the Sekonic L-358,But also was wondering if it would be worth spending the extra money for the L-558R with the spot meter? Thanks for your input, Later
night73
I have the Sekonic L-308S and it is great...I don't even think it is necessary to spend the extra money on the L-358 if you ask me. But I only shoot studio, events, and outdoor portraits.
david_henderson
Well do you want to spot-meter or not? To my mind multiple readings with a narrow spot is by far the best way to get accurate exposures for scenics and most other outdoor work; but some people use film with more extensive latitude than my slide films and some people just want an easy single reading solution -which spot-metering isn't. I doubt you'll get better accuracy for the extra money; simply more options, so it really does boil down to whether you want to spot-meter or not. steve_hovland
I have a 308 (more than 10 years) and 358 (a few weeks). Over the long term the 358 is worth the extra money because it reads out flash in relationship to ambient as a percentage and will do it at usefully long shutter speeds (several seconds). watchin
358 is more meter than most need... but that said - if your subject will be more than 15 feet away and you are doing a lot of natural light then you'll need a spot meter. I haven't found a need for a spot meter (other than what is in the camera) in a long time, so I got the 358 and am tickled purple with it :D
