john schroeder
This is just a heads-up for anyone installing Nikon's new Capture NX on to theircomputers with an AMD 64 processor. You will need to set a "Data ExecutionPrevention" exception before it will run properly. Go to "Control Panel" then"System" then the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Performance Settings" button andthen the "Data Execution Prevention" tab. Click "Add" and go to C:/ProgramFiles/Nikon/Capture NX Click on CaptureNX.exe and then "OK". This is the sameprocedure you needed to do so the original "Capture" would work.

michael_bradtke
Hi John I am running Capture NX on my AMD 64 and have had no problems. (Other then I dont really like it) I am also running Capture 4x on the same computer with no problems. What is this supposed to fix? michael_bradtke
Wonder if it is because I am running Win 2K and not XP. Michael
john schroeder
Yes, It's an XP thing. The "Data Execution Prevention" is supposed to prevent certain virus from screwing up your computer.
greg s
Kinda sounds like the change allows Capture NX to execute its own Self Modifying Code (program creates/modifies its code, then executes it).
walterh
Hmm I did not need to set this (running XP and AMD64) but perhaps my antivirus software did it for me? (Mac Afee virus Scan 8.0)

david_elm
Data Execute Protection (DEP) is about the OS marking data pages as non-executible. It is an option with XP on processors that support it and always on with XP x64. I tried Capture NX on XP x64 and it did not bomb so my guess is it does not try to execute code in data pages.
