jack_lo_..._t_o
Trying out my new V700 scanner, which replaces a 2450, very happy with the optical quality (way way better)no probs with 35, but it insists on (a)chopping up frames, so that one file will contain 1/2 of #3 and the adjoining 1/2 of#4, OR (b)turning square into rectangular, cutting tops of heads, lower bodies, etc. I only occasionally had this problem with the 2450. The solution which comes to mind is sending a pickaxe through the centre of the danged machine, but I'm pretty sure the satisfaction would be short-lived.... Any answers? akocurek
I am anxiously awaiting the answer to this question myself. I have the 2450 which I want to replace with the V700 of V750. Aren't you able to manually select the frame by clicking and dragging? Or are you scanning complete strips of film?
dpowis
Like on many scanners, you should disable the thumbnail preview function, as it often cuts frames a bit randomly.
jack_lo_..._t_o
Daniel: are you saying that I should go directly to "scan"? I find the preview function necessary because I rarely want to scan an entire roll. Maybe I shudda kept the 2450 for 120?
jack_lo_..._t_o
Adrian: the V700 has a holder which will take 6 6x6 negatives. Between the price ($630CDN) and the hoopla you'd think it should do what it says it does. I had slightly better luck scanning as 24 bit colour for some reason.Still got a rectangular composition, but more of the original.
jon_noble
If its what it was like with the 4180 you need to set the film size in "configuration". Default (if i remember correctly) is 6x4.5 I had this problem wheni first got it and used the full view for ages until i happened across it
jc s
Are you using Epson Scan? If so, did you change from the default 6x4.5 to 6x6 (assuming that you're not scanning 6x4.5) under the configuration tab in the scanning menu?
jack_lo_..._t_o
What Daniel said. I changed from "thumbnail" to "normal". Then I get to see a kind of proof sheet, and I click & drag on the images I want. The arrow next to th preview button. Not sure how this would work with 35. Maybe thumbnails are better. I did mess around a bit in "configuration", whatever that is. There is no complete glossary of the functions of this software. The physical components yes, but not the virtual. Still, many mysterious things about this machine. Not the least of which is that the manual itself is virtual, and very sketchy.<div></div>
jack_lo_..._t_o
I keep learning. I finally figured out the "configuration" thing, and yes, default is 645 which I moved to 6x6. I wonder if this means I can go back to thumbnails? Everyone has been/is being a great help. I'm definitely analog/Luddite by nature. Thanks so much. steven_clark
It's a good idea to be ready to turn the thumbnailing back off, as with most autmatic software features auto cropping can often be fooled.
jack_lo_..._t_o
Even when I switch the configuration to 6x6, thumbnails are still not square. So click & drag is the way. I have no problem with that.
custom film holders for fl
Jack - As you have found out, and others here have mentioned, autocropping is often unreliable. I have put up some notes for manual cropping with EpsonScan to create a batch scan. It seems like you have figured out a lot already but the notes might help with a few of the details: <p> <a href= "http://www.betterscanning.com/scanning/batchscanning.html" </a> "Batch Scanning Tips" </a> <p> <p> Doug<p> <a href="http://www.betterscanning.com">New holder designs for Epson, Agfa and Microtek</a>
