linda_pullman
Last weekend my 550EX hit the ground. Everything operates except firing. It zooms, LCD backlight is ok, it just doesn't fire. Do I have to buy a new gun? Any chance for fixing this? The flash is 3 years old, so no warranty applies. Thanks for help, Linda
rob_murray
Canon can fix it. It maybe the flash tube is cracked or a circuit board broke or a connector or wire was broken on impact.
bellavance
In 2003, my Canon 10D with 420EX flash fell from my car on asphalt. The flash casing broke in two, and Canon repaired it. The 17-40/4L lens suffered no damage (thanks to its lens shade) and the camera suffered slight damage to its battery door that Canon repaired at no charge, even though I had told the truth. chrisjb
It may be possible that the strobe has broken or been dislodged, it is usually a simple repair for some camera repairers, but if anything alse is wrong, they may send it to canon and charge the extra. I had a 550ex take a knock and exposures were all over. My usual repairer said send to canon direct. it was recalibrated and is still going strong. As the others stated their experiences,my advice send it to canon good luck with it
jkmackenzie
Try this link: http://home.fuse.net/pets/EOS/550EX/550ex.htm If it's just the tube, and you are mechanically inclined, it might help.

linda_pullman
Thank you, guys. Jason, the link you sent is btriliant to me. Indeed the tube seems to be broken. I just don't know where I can buy the tube. Any ideas? Thanks again, Linda
john_stark
From Canon....and they are pretty cheap considering... I think $12 plus S&H Just make sure when installing it NOT to touch the glass or the oils from your skin will burn the tube out again. JS
