lamoine_einspahr
Does a RAW image specific to a 300D have any sharpness, contrast, etc adjustments to the image as a JPG does when using parameter one? Does using parameter one affect RAW images at all? If not, what adjustment in photoshop CS equals parameter one? I may have to revert to JPG for card space on an upcoming trip. I want to understand the differences. Lamoine
bobatkins
The only things that affect a RAW image are ISO settings and exposure. Things like contrast, saturation, sharpness, color balance etc. have no effect at all. You can adjust those additional parameters in most RAW conversion utilities. wayne_campbell
But doesn't the 300D auto white balance affect RAW? I just starting shooting RAW recently and the white balance is on Auto and the RAW images seem right on. Maybe I've just been lucky.
mike_hodson
AFAIK...The RAW file has the "as shot" WB setting in it. So the way the RAW preview image looks will be affected by the WB setting...but you can change it at the point of conversion.
rainer_t
White-Balance, Contrast, Sharpness are stored in the RAW, but they are not applied on the data in the RAW-file. Therefore a RAW-Converter can take those values as defaults for this picture. Rainer
lamoine_einspahr
Thanks, I will bear that in mind. I was fearful that RAW had its own adjustments made by the 300D in addition to any I use in CS. Thanks Lamoine
