jay robinson
I'm thinking about getting this lens, but would like to hear from others about their experiences with it.
nolan
Apparently when it works it's a lovely fast lens. I purchased two of them from B&H, six months apart, and each one back-focused so much as to be unusable. I returned them both. No other lens has had focus problems on my (Nikon) camera bodies. So if you get one, just make sure you can return it if necessary. Good luck. Nolan
rainer_t
Jay, same as C.Nolan says ... I thought the focus problems aren't that often with Nikons but anyway ... I expierienced the same with my EOS 300D. So, make sure, that you can test the lens carefully. Form what I experienced and heard, you'll either have backfocus problems, or frontfocus problems (along with the effect, that the lens will not focus to infinity with AF (due to the frontfocus)). If you find a lens that consistenly focusses ok, it's a nice "normal-lens". Rainer
ryan mcgill - trm photo st
Philip, The main thing I noticed was back and front focusing, but I have those issues with ever lens I have used... so it is not fair for me to say that. The focus issues were more pronounced with the Canon 28-135 IS USM I owned. Here are some shots with the Sigma 30mm 1.4: http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=588338 Happy Shooting! ~Ryan<div></div>

patricks
uneven product quality from what i hear, but very solid perf if you get a good copy. honestly, i would be hesitant to buy expensive EF-S mount lenses since Canon is so clearly going FF even for the higher end pro/consumer bodies (e.g. 5D) so what are you going to do with those EF-S lenses in 1-2 years? ryan mcgill - trm photo st
Patrick, I plan on selling it with the 300D when I decide to upgrade. ;) Already thought it through. BTW, We do not know for certain where Canon may be heading. They may move to FF... they may not... Depends on economics and technology. ~Ryan
